YOU’RE INROUND 3!

Congrats, you’ve been shortlisted for the final round. It’s a conversation with our team, not a quiz. Here’s what we’ll talk about and how to get ready.

  2. Round 2

  3. Round 3 · you are here

    Interview

What to expect

Two parts, one chat

PART 1

Vibe check

Who are you? What do you love building, why VinnovateIT, how do you work with people, and what do you want out of the club? Be yourself. No right answers here.

PART 2

Advanced technical

This is where we go deep. Expect one or both of these:

Track A

Our existing projects

Explain how a feature in one of our live projects was built, or sketch how a feature that doesn’t exist yet would work.

Track B

A brand-new project

We hand you a fresh idea and work through its design and architecture together.

Track A · do your homework

Know our projects

Any VinnovateIT project is fair game, and these four come up most. Use them, poke around, form opinions. The questions are examples of what we might ask, not a fixed list.

how it works today
a feature that doesn’t exist yet

Messit

FlutterAndroidiOS

Your hostel mess menu on the go, with meal reminders on Android and iOS.

  • Today: How does the app fetch and cache the menu so it opens instantly, even offline?
  • Today: How are meal reminders scheduled, and how do they survive a menu change or a phone restart?
  • New feature: How would you build “rate today’s meal” so the mess team sees live feedback per dish?

StudyHub

Next.jsCloudflare

VIT past papers and exam resources in one place, with custom themes.

  • Today: How are papers organized and searched by course code, slot and exam type?
  • Today: How does theme customization work, and where would user themes be stored?
  • New feature: How would you let students upload papers without letting spam or duplicates through?

Latch

Kotlin MultiplatformCompose

Auto-login for VIT hostel Wi-Fi on Android, Windows and Linux.

  • Today: How does it notice the captive-portal session dropped and log you back in?
  • Today: How much code is shared between Android and desktop, and where does it have to split?
  • New feature: How would you add macOS support and ship auto-updates safely?

BunkBuddies

Next.jsPythonWebSockets

Find roommates for VIT hostel counselling, ranked by an NLP compatibility score.

  • Today: How is the compatibility score built from the personality quiz and free-text description?
  • Today: How do hostel chat and DMs stay real-time, and what breaks first on counselling day?
  • New feature: How would you suggest merging two half-full rooms into one good group?

Everything else we’ve built lives at github.com/vinnovateit (opens in a new tab).

Track B

Something that doesn’t exist yet

We’ll give you a problem statement on the spot and design the system with you. We care about how you reason through choices, not a perfect answer.

Expect to talk through things like:

Before you walk in

How to prep

  • Use at least two of the projects above like a student would.
  • Know each project’s stack and roughly how it fits together.
  • Think out loud. We want to hear your reasoning.
  • “I don’t know, but here’s how I’d find out” is a great answer.
  • Have one or two of your own projects ready to talk about.
  • Bring questions for us too.
